FORWARD WITH FAITH:
As you may have heard, a major campaign being led by the Hartford Bishops’ Foundation is currently underway at Sacred Heart Church and throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford. Over the next few weeks, we will be sharing answers to some good and important questions that we have been hearing from our parishioners:
How do I know that my gift to this campaign will go to the components outlined in the Forward with Faith Campaign case statement?
The Hartford Bishops’ Foundation Board of Directors have gone to great lengths to ensure that the funds raised will be used exclusively for the components outlined in the campaign case statement. Grant making portfolios are being established for each of the case components. The Finance Committee and Investment Committee of the Board are responsible for the appropriate management, stewardship, and distribution of campaign funds. A yearly audit by the independent auditing firm, KPMG, will be conducted, and the Hartford Bishops Foundation will report annually on funds received and disbursed.
Everyone in the Sacred Heart Community is invited to participate in the Forward with Faith Campaign. It is our hope that our entire community will join together and support this blessed effort for our Archdiocese and our parish. As we continue our efforts, we ask all of you to pray for our success and participate at a level your means allow, for the future of our Church.
Sunday religious education classes begin at 9:00 am for grades pre-school through 8th grade.
Youth groups meet Sunday evenings for 6th to 8th graders and a high school group for grades 9 through 12.
Confirmation class is for 9th grade and up. For more information contact: -Pre-school through 8th grade: Doris Battle: email@example.com. -Youth groups and Confirmation: Stephen Potyra: firstname.lastname@example.org.
CHOIR MEMBERS WANTED:
Sacred Heart Church choir is recruiting volunteer singers to raise their voices in praise and worship to God. Everyone with a song in their heart is eagerly in-vited to join us for light-hearted fun during rehearsals and at church functions (we love trivia!), as well as in joyful and reverent singing on Sundays. Please contact Mary in the office, or see our Director of Music, Rian, after mass to sign up. Remember – those who sing pray twice!
HEARING ASSISTANCE DEVICE:
Many parishioners have asked for a device that would help them hear better at Mass. We have heard your request and we have purchased a system and 4 units. In order to determine if more units are needed we invite you to try the system and let us know whether it is something you would like to take advantage of each Mass. If you would like to try a unit, please ask a Hospitality Minister when entering the church. There are two units located at the main entrance and two units located at the Fr. Picher Hall entrance. Please pick one up and return it to the baskets at the two exits when leaving. So far, the response has been very positive.
Beginning Sunday, October 6th and continuing every FIRST SUNDAY through Sunday, April 5th we will have our FREE pancake and sausage buffet after the 8:00 am and 10:15 am masses. If you would like to help, please contact David Royce at email@example.com. Another way to help is to sponsor one of the buffets. The cost is $150.00 per month. We invite businesses, families and groups to help us with the expenses. For more information contact Mary in the parish office at 860-242-4142.

Would you be interested in studying the bible on Tuesday mornings after the morning mass? (8:45 am) If so, Gail Hill, a graduate of the Archdiocesan Biblical School is willing to lead the group. We plan to start October 1st. Please call or email the office if you would be interested in joining.

ST. ANNE’S MISSION:
Part of our goal for the Forward of Faith Campaign is outreach to those in need. One of the places we would like to assist is Saint Anne’s Mission in Klagetoh, Arizona. It is a mission church of the Franciscan Friars within the Catholic Diocese of Gallup serving the faithful in the communities of Klagetoh, Wide Ruins, and Cornfields on the Navajo Reservation. We are forming a committee to assist the Navajo Native Americans residing on this reservation. The needs are great as half of the reservation does not have electricity or running water. Br. Robert Lavoie, of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart (formerly a parishioner here) currently serves in ministry at St. Anne’s. Please consider joining this new committee as we explore the various ways we can help. For more information please contact Mary Murray at 860-978-6571. To learn about St. Anne’s go to: Klagetoh.org.
All are invited to come to a scripture group on Fridays from 9:30 to 10:30. The group will study the upcoming Sunday readings.
Our Giving Tree is up and ready for you. We are once again asking for gifts to brighten Christmas for: The residents of Touchpoints (a residential home for the elderly and disabled), Bloomfield Social Services (helping Bloomfield children), School Readiness program in Hartford (children 3 to 5 serviced by Catholic Charities), and Retired Sisters of St. Joseph. Please take one or more tags home with you, purchase the requested gift and return the wrapped present with the tag attached by December 15th. Santa would be very happy to purchase gifts with any cash donations.
Children of all ages are invited to an Advent Retreat hosted by our religious education ministry on Saturday, December 14th from 9 to 12. If you are interested in attending, please sign up in the back of the church.
We have two locations for you to place your prayer requests. There is a book in which to list those people, both living and deceased whom you would like to have remembered in all Masses offered here at Sacred Heart. This book is kept in the back of the Church on weekends. During the week, it is kept outside of the Chapel. The Rosary Prayer Group has a basket for your prayer requests also. These requests can be for anyone and/or anything in need of prayer. It can also include prayers of thanks and praise. On Tuesday nights at 6:30, the Rosary Group prays for these requests. The basket is kept in the back of the Church outside of the Reconciliation Room.
