Stewardship of Treasure

“”How shall I make a return to the Lord for all the good he has done for me?” -Psalm 116:12
We must nurture our Church if it is to remain open for all that seek the promises of God and the grace and love of Jesus. Our gifts help to sustain our Church as well as help the parish community bring Christ’s healing embrace to the elderly, the sick, the abused and the poor in our communities.

Gifts also bless the giver, for Christ has promised, “Give and it shall be given to you…for the measure you measure will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)

God gives his goodness to us unconditionally…and we are called to model our giving after God’s example. As good stewards, we should plan our church giving carefully. When and what we give to our church and to charities should be deliberate decisions. They should recognize our need to give and our ability to give as our thanks for God’s unconditional goodness to us.

The Bible speaks of the importance of tithing. One interpretation recognized in many parishes is to give the first part of our income as’ a thanksgiving to God—half to our parish and the other half as the Spirit prompts our hearts to aid the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, Catholic schools, Catholic Charities, a hospital, a needy family, and more.

The Commitment of Treasure

As good stewards, we should plan our giving carefully. When and what we give to our church and to charities should be deliberate decisions. Moreover, in making this commitment, we should forthrightly recognize our need to give…and joyfully celebrate our ability to give!

Your commitment will help furnish the material support necessary to fulfill our increased spiritual commitments of time and talent to serve the needs of our parish and the needy in our parish family. Giving fully in proportion to our ability to give is an important decision. Pray about it. Within a family, discuss it together and pray about it together.

Your commitment of treasure is a personal a Ad spiritual commitment between yourself and God. May God guide you in your decision and bless you for your generosity.
